ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson University softball team split in its South Atlantic Conference-opening doubleheader on Friday afternoon as the Trojans faced Brevard College (19-8, 1-1 SAC), earning a 3-0 win and suffering a 1-0 loss.

Both pitchers were on top of their games as just three earned runs between both teams were allowed on the day.

Casey Deer (11-6) pitched both games for Anderson (18-7, 1-1 SAC), going a combined 14 innings, giving up just one run off 11 hits.

The strong Trojans offense was kept in check on the day as it was limited to three runs off seven hits.

Game #1
Anderson 3, Brevard 0

Anderson capitalized on Brevard miscues and control problems by the Tornados' starting hurler. Going into the third inning scoreless, AU freshman Danielle Swygert led off the inning with a single through the right side. The Trojans would then use four straight walks from the Tornado pitching staff to post two runs on the scoreboard. After Anderson grabbed the early 2-0 advantage, Brevard's Martika Elmore retired three straight Trojan batters to get out of the bases-loaded jam.

In the fifth inning, Abby Child lead off the inning with a double off the left field wall - the freshman's third double on the season. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, she scored off an error by the Brevard infield.

Deer and the Trojans defense would then cruise to their 16th victory on the season. The senior gave up only six hits in the complete-game shutout. She finished the game with five strikeouts. Child was a perfect one-for-one with two walks. Amber Duncan and Charlotte Seiber each collected an RBI.

Game #2
Brevard 1, Anderson 0

The night cap of the twin bill remained scoreless until the final inning, with Brevard scoring the only run of the game when Sarah Carlos hit a solo shot, her second homer of the season, putting Brevard on top 1-0 in the top of the seventh inning. Elmore picked up her 10th win of the season as she pitched the complete game shutout for Brevard, giving up just two hits to the Anderson offense. Deer pitched a complete game, giving up the one run off five hits. Seiber and Durham each had a hit for the Trojans.

The Trojans will take the field next on Tuesday when they face Georgia Southwestern at Smethers field. The first game of the non-conference match-up is set to get underway at 3 p.m.
