Trojan Softball Routs St. Augustine’s

ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson softball team pulled off a sweep for the second time in as many days as the Trojans shut out St. Augustine's College, 19-0 and 13-0.

St. Augustine broke up freshman Kelsey Davis' no-hit bid with one out to go in the second game.

On the day the Trojans gave up only four hits in 10 innings, recording their third shutout in two days.

Game #1
Anderson 19, St. Augustine 0

In the first inning Emily Monteith reached on an error from the Falcon's infield. One batter later, after an Abby Child walk, Amber Duncan knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI to make the score 1-0. Three of the next five batters in Durham, Lucas and Huitt each singled to drive in a run each to make the score 4-0. The next batter, Danielle Swygert homered over the centerfield fence to give the Trojans the 7-0 lead. By the end of the leadoff inning the Trojans scored 13 runs off eight hits, going through the lineup twice.

After a Davis single to lead off the second inning, Monteith homered to right centerfield to make the score 15-0. Kelly McInnes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run and the Trojans left the inning with three runs off four hits to set the score at 16-0.

The Trojans managed three runs in the fourth inning after a McInnes RBI-double, a Huitt RBI groundout and a Davis RBI-single. With the score 19-0 the Trojans would cruise to victory in just five innings of play.

Swygert and Lucas both led the Trojans with three RBI each. Monteith went two-for- three and Davis went two-for-two in the winning effort.

Alex Waldroup pitched a complete game shutout for the Trojans. The senior just gave up three hits.


Game #2
Anderson 13, St. Augustine 0

Swygert doubled to lead off the game for AU and the next batter, Emily Monteith hit a two-run homerun over the right field fence to give the Trojans the 2-0 lead.

In the second inning Davis hit a one-out double into left field. The next batter, Swygert, brought Davis home with a single to make the score 3-0 in favor of Anderson. In the third inning the Trojans picked up eight runs off four base hits.

Monteith hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to increase the lead to 12-0. Four batters later, with the bases loaded, McInnes walked to force home a run and make the score 13-0.

The Falcons second baseman Ramadana Simmons broke up Davis' perfect bid in the fifth inning with two outs. The senior hit a bunt single.

Monteith went a perfect three-for-three, leading the Trojans with three RBI. Swygert and Hipp each went a perfect two-for-two.

Davis pitched a one-hit shutout, striking out eight out of 16 batters.

The Trojans take a one-week break before getting back on the diamond next Wednesday to take on Southern Wesleyan. The first game at Smethers field is set to start at 4 pm.
