Trojans Host Mars Hill on Saturday

ANDERSON, S.C. - After adding a key South Atlantic Conference victory over Tusculum last Sunday, Anderson University men's tennis looks for its first winning streak of the season when its hosts Mars Hill on Saturday. First serve from Max Grubbs Memorial Courts is set for 1 p.m.

The Trojans
Beginning the match with two doubles victories, the bottom of AU's lineup clinched the 5-4 win over TC on Sunday, as sophomores Paul Michael Calhoun (No. 4) and Inaki Iriberry (No. 5) and senior Danilo Faria earned singles wins, capped off by a three-set triumph by Faria to end the match. The trio at the bottom-half of the lineup combines for a 6-2 singles record in Anderson's last three matches, as Calhoun was the lone Trojan to record a team point against nationally-ranked Coker last Saturday.

While the Black and Gold have posted just five doubles wins for the season, the sophomore tandem of Iriberry and Tomas Passalacqua is 3-3 at the No. 2 position, while winning their last two matches. In singles, Iriberry matches his doubles mark with a 3-3 record, tying Calhoun and Faria for the most wins on the team.

Despite holding a 2-4 overall record as a team, the Trojans are 2-1 in SAC play, as they sit in fourth-place in the conference standings. Nine teams in the league are chasing undefeated Queens (2-0), Wingate (1-0) and Coker (1-0) for the top spot in the league standings.

The Lions
Opening its SAC schedule with a 6-3 win over Catawba and an 8-1 setback to conference newcomer, Queens, Mars Hill is 3-5 after combining its fall and spring schedules following its second straight loss on the season to King on Tuesday.

MHU is led by junior Euquerio Guerrero who is a perfect 4-0 in the spring, highlighted by a three-set win over UNC Asheville's Thomas Panoulos at the No. 1 position. Following the win against UNC Asheville, Guerrero has posted three straight straight-set victories. Guerrero's only setback of the 2013-14 season was to Tusculum's Lukas Winkelmann during the fall slate.

Despite the success at the No. 1 position, the Lions have struggled throughout the lineup as they hold a losing mark in every singles position for the year. In doubles, Guerrero is teamed up with Sam Lee as they combine for a 4-4 record, but have dropped their last two matches.

The Series
In the last three seasons, AU is a perfect 3-0 against Mars Hill, defeating the Lions by a combined score of 20-7 for the regular season. Last year, Anderson earned a 6-3 win over MHU, capped off by five singles wins.
