ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior Jerome Branker and sophomore Abdoulaye Camara have been named to the Second-Team All-South Atlantic Conference doubles squad, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Branker and Camara helped led the Trojans to the top seed in this week's conference tournament, which begins on Thursday. Anderson wrapped up the season with an overall mark of 10-5 and posted a stellar 8-1 mark in league play. The duo, which posted a league record of 4-5 at the number one doubles' flight, helped AU close out the regular season with five consecutive wins, including three league victories and a win past Erskine in the regular-season finale.
Tusculum accounted for all three of the major SAC men's tennis
regular season awards that were announced on Wednesday, with Lukas
Winkelmann being named Player of the Year, Nicolas Planchard as
Freshman of the Year and Tommy Arnett as the league's Coach of the
Year.
The Pioneers went 8-1 in SAC matches this season, earning a share
of the conference title with Anderson. TC finished the regular
season 14-4 overall.
Winkelmann, last season's SAC Freshman of the Year, went 16-1
playing at the No. 1 position for Tusculum. He was unbeaten in
singles play in conference matches, and has won 11-straight
decisions heading into this week's Food Lion SAC Tennis
Championship.
Winkelmann's Player of the Year selection comes a day after he was
named the SAC Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Joining Winkelmann on the All-SAC Singles First Team were
Planchard, LMU's Philipp Hoffmann, Wingate's Kennedy Cancelado,
Mars Hill's Lucas Simm and Tusculum's Jonas Winkelmann. Hoffmann
and Jonas Winkelmann finished the season with singles records of
13-3, Planchard went 14-1, Cancelado went 13-10 and Simm went
6-8.
Hoffmann, Cancelado, Simm and Planchard played primarily at the No.
1 position this season, while Jonas Winkelmann played No. 3.
Three doubles tandems also received All-SAC First Team accolades.
Tusculum's duo of Planchard and Lukas Winkelmann earned a selection
to the team after going 9-5, as did LMU's pair of Hoffmann and
Alexey Minevskiy, which went 7-7. Completing the First Team were
Newberry's Vinicius Botelho and Michael Saunders, who partnered to
finish 13-7.
All three tandems played at No. 1 doubles for their respective
teams.
The All-SAC Singles Second Team was made up of Botelho, LMU's
Marcelo Alvim, Carson-Newman's Juan Sebastian Perez, Mars Hill's
Euquerio Guerrero, Catawba's Jess Goodall and Catawba's Alex
Macdonald.
Joining Camara and Branker on the all-conference doubles second
team were Wingate's Cancelado and Ryan Forbes, and LMU's Alvim and
Will Sparks.
Arnett's selection as Coach of the Year marked his fourth time
receiving the award in his career.
Anderson opens SAC Tournament play on Friday by squaring off
against the winner of Thursday's matchup between fourth-seeded
Lincoln Memorial and fifth-seeded Newberry. First-serve is slated
for 9 a.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
