NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Anderson men's tennis team dropped a pair of doubles' points, but bounce back to claim a 5-4 South Atlantic Conference win past Newberry Monday afternoon at the Cannon Courts.
Anderson improved to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the league, while Newberry slipped to 1-3 and 0-1 in the conference.
Sophomore Abdoulaye Camara and senior Jerome Branker posted a narrow, 9-8 (7-4) win at the No. 1 doubles' slot but Anderson trailed 2-1 following doubles' action.
Following setbacks at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Trojans earned four hard-fought individual wins to claim the team victory.
Senior Daniel Gonzalez defeated the Wolves' Carlos Nicolopulos in straight sets, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3, while fellow senior Loic Ambroise edged Newberry's Fernando Espana, 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 at the No. 4 spot.
At No. 5 singles, freshman Paul Calhoun topped Cal Loveridge,
6-4, 7-6, and at No. 6 singles, Inaki Iriberry outlasted David
Sons, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3.
Anderson will get back on the courts Wednesday, when the Trojans
visit Conference Carolinas-foe Limestone at 2 p.m.
