Inaki Iriberry Named Men’s Tennis Conference Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Anderson freshman Inaki Iriberry has been named the South Atlantic Conference men's tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 24, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Iriberry posted a perfect 4-0 singles record on the week, including three wins in conference play at No. 6 singles. The native of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, helped lead the Trojans to a 3-1 team record, as AU defeated SAC opponents Newberry, Tusculum and Mars Hill - all on the road, with the lone blemish coming at Limestone.

"Inaki clinched the match twice for us this week against conference opponents," said Anderson head coach Joey Eskridge. "He easily defeated Limestone's No. 6 in the nonconference match and it was a solid performance from the freshman this week."

He improved to 5-1 on the season on the strength of a five-match win streak and has not lost a single set since dropping his first matchup of the season at seventh-ranked Columbus State.

Iriberry began the week by defeating Newberry's David Sons, 7-6 (9-7), 6-3, then knocked off Limestone's Daniel Lopez, 6-2, 6-1 for one of AU's three points versus the Saints. He got past Tusculum's Daniel Gianopulos, 7-6, 6-0, on Saturday and defeated Mars Hill's Joel Sturgis in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2 on Sunday.
