Pakebusch Named Player Of The Year

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson University men's tennis team placed four players on the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team, including Player of the Year Philip Pakebusch, and head coach Rodrigo da Silva was named Coach of the Year Thursday night. Pakebusch, a 6-foot-6, 195-pound sophomore from Hamburg, Germany, was 15-3 overall and 7-0 in conference play in singles. Entering the conference tournament, Pakebusch has won five straight and 11 of his last 12. Renato Assuncao, a 6-5, 185-pound sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, also was named to the first team. Assuncao was 15-5 overall and 8-0 in conference play in singles. Anderson placed two players on the second team - Jose Gaspar and Andres Weisskopf. Gaspar, a 5-8, 165-pound native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, was 11-8 overall and 4-3 in conference play in singles. Weisskopf, a 6-0, 185-pound senior from Cuenca, Ecuador, was 14-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play in singles. In his third season at Anderson, da Silva led the Trojans to their third straight Conference Carolinas regular-season title and third straight undefeated conference record. At Anderson, he is 39-19 overall and 28-0 in conference play.
