Men's Tennis Team Gets Big Region Victory

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The No. 20 Anderson University men's tennis team swept the doubles and the top three singles matches in straight sets on its way to a 7-2 victory over No. 17 Georgia College and State University Sunday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts. Anderson, 15-6 overall, won its fifth straight match. All three doubles matches were tight, but all three went to Anderson. The Anderson team of Jose Gaspar and Jan Schiebler pulled out a 9-7 victory at No. 2 doubles over Matt Belenchia and Joao Casagrande to give the Trojans a 3-0 lead entering singles. Anderson pulled off surprises in the top three singles matches. At No. 1 singles, Anderson Philip Pakebusch, ranked No. 11, upset No. 3-ranked Erick Siqueira, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Gaspar knocked off No. 22-ranked Francis Yoshimoto, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 3 singles, Renato Assuncao took care of Max Beliankou, 6-4, 6-3.
