Trojans Headed To Mid-Atlantic Regional

ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson University men's tennis team will participate in the 2006 NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional beginning Thursday at Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga. Anderson, 17-4 overall, won both the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference regular-season and tournament titles. The Trojans have won four of the last five CVAC regular-season titles and are now 74-5 in league play since joining the CVAC in 1999. The Trojans earned the regional bid by beating Barton 5-3 in the championship match of the CVAC Tournament Apr. 23. Anderson is led by two All-CVAC first team selections -- Philippe Magat and Carlos Sanches. In Thursday's first round, host Armstrong Atlantic State will face Shaw at 2 p.m. and Anderson will take on Francis Marion at 4 p.m. Francis Marion beat Anderson 5-4 in Florence, S.C., on Mar. 26. The two first-round winners will meet at 1 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. The regional champion will advance to the Division II national tournament May 10-13 at Kansas City, Missouri.
