Men's Tennis Team Claims Tournament Title

SUMTER, S.C. -- The Anderson University men's tennis team rallied from a 2-1 deficit in doubles to beat Barton College 5-3 and win the 2006 CVAC Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center Sunday afternoon. Anderson's lone victory in doubles was a 9-7 decision at No. 1. But in singles, the Trojans got a three-set victory by tournament MVP Philippe Magat at No. 1 and three straight set victories to claim the championship and automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Trojans were the No. 1 seed in the tournament after winning their fourth regular-season title in the last five years. Joining Magat on the All-Tournament team from Anderson were Gustavo Carvalho and Andres Weisskopf. Anderson is now 17-4 overall. Anderson 5, Barton 3 Doubles -- Magat-Weisskopf (AU) d.
