Trojans Battle Back and Win in Double Overtime; 2-1

CENTRAL, S.C. – Anderson University men's soccer made the most of the extra time scoring a golden goal midway through the second overtime period to defeat nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan, 2-1 in double overtime Wednesday evening at Child's Field.

With the victory, Anderson moves to 6-6-3 while Southern Wesleyan falls to 9-7 overall. The Trojans remain undefeated, 5-0, against nonconference opponents on the season.

The Warriors put the first point on the board first on a late first half goal by Michel Herszenhaut assisted by Christian Taylor.

The lone goal stood until the 80 minute when senior Brad Du Plooy connected for his fifth goal of the season to knot the match of at 1-1.

The match remained tied at the end of regulation with the Trojans preparing for extra minutes for the sixth time this season.

Anderson was able to get two shots off in the first 10 minutes of overtime, but could not end the match. However, midway through the second overtime period Josh Calabria netted the golden goal to give the Trojans a 2-1 win. Calabria's game-winner was his second of the year.

Anderson finishes up regular season play when it host SAC opponent Mars Hill on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
