Men’s Soccer Travels to Shorter

ANDERSON, S.C. – Looking to continue its solid start, Anderson University men's soccer will begin a mini road trip Wednesday when it travels to Shorter. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ben Brady Field.

The Trojans
AU began its 2016 season with a 2-1(2OT) victory at Lees-McRae on Thursday while remaining perfect with a 2-1 win over Peach Belt opponent Flagler on Saturday. The Shorter matchup will be the final nonconference match prior to the South Atlantic Conference schedule as the Trojans look to enter league play on Sept. 14.

Four different Anderson players have scored goals on the young season, as senior Brad Du Plooy and junior Josh Calabria propelled AU to the 2-1 (2OT) victory over the Bobcats, while sophomore Gabriel Homem scored the opening goal with freshman Landon Goodman knocking in the game winner against the Saints on Saturday.

In goal, senior Devon Ashy logged 192 minutes earning both wins. For the week, Ashy totaled 3 saves while facing 17 total shots.

The Hawks
The season opener for the Hawks scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Florida Southern College was cancelled due to the effects of Hurricane Hermine coming through the region. The home opener with the Trojans now becomes the season opener as well.

The Series
Anderson and Shorter will meet for the second time on Wednesday. The 2015 meeting between the two schools resulted in a 2-2 tie at the end of two overtime periods.
