Trojans Take Two From Limestone

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University swept Limestone Saturday night for its second Conference Carolinas doubleheader sweep of the season. Chris Pitts threw a complete game seven hitter to give the Trojans a 10-6 win in game one, and in game two, Anderson scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 3-1 victory. In game one, the Saints got on the scoreboard in the first inning when Adam McSwain belted a two-run home run to left center field. The Anderson bats came alive in the fourth when Trent Still hit an RBI single to right that scored Blair Carson. After a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Saxon, Andrew Davis grounded out to second to score Clint Neville and tie the game at 2. With two outs, Patrick West hit a RBI double to right center that scored Still. West scored when Derek Hipp followed with a RBI double to left center to give the Trojans a 4-2 lead. Limestone's Kyle Brewer homered in the fifth to cut the AU lead to 4-3. Anderson responded in the bottom half on a RBI single by Saxon to make it 6-4. Anderson added another run in the sixth to extend its lead to 7-4. Limestone tied the game in the seventh at 7 with three runs, highlighted by Zach Watkins two RBI triple. Anderson countered with one run in the seventh when Saxon tripled and scored on a Limestone error to make it 7-6. Anderson added three insurance runs in the eighth inning when Clint Neville blasted a three-run homer. Pitts' complete game was his second of the year. Neville led the Trojans offense by going 3-for-5 with three RBI and a home run. Watkins led the Saints with two hits in five at bats including a two-run triple. In game two, both teams were scoreless until the fifth when Watkins slapped an RBI single to left to give the Saints 1-0 lead. Anderson responded in the bottom half with two outs when Carson hit an RBI single to left to tie the game at one. The Trojans took the lead in the sixth when Ryan Kirkland hit a pinch-hit RBI single to right, and Saxon scored on a wild pitch. Cory Welch earned the win for the Trojans by working 2 1/3 innings and striking out the potential tying run for the final out. Brock White took the loss for the Saints. Carson led the Trojan offense with two hits in three at bats. The Saints were led by Justin Moore who was 3-for-3. With the win, Anderson improves to 18-34 overall and 11-12 in the conference, while Limestone falls to 21-28 overall and 9-13 in the conference. The two teams will play the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium.
