ANDERSON, S.C. -- Erskine scored six runs in the final two innings to beat Anderson University 16-11 in a Conference Carolinas match up Friday afternoon at Anderson Memorial Stadium. Erskine, 29-4 overall and 13-3 in the conference, scored three runs in the first inning on three hits and one Trojan error. The Flying Fleet added one more run in the second and three more in third on a RBI single by John Bolding and a RBI double by Matt Wurzer to take a 6-1 lead. After Erskine pushed one more run across in the fourth, the Anderson offense responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead to 7-5. Patrick West's RBI single to right highlighted the inning. But in the fifth, Erskine answered with a solo home run by Atlee Pearson and a two-run home run by Fogle to extend its lead to 10-5. Andrew Davis responded in the bottom of the fifth for the Trojans with his first home run of the day, and Josh Grubbs singled and scored on Derek Hipp's RBI double to make it 10-8. In the Anderson seventh, Davis led off and blasted his second home run of the game. Blair Carson's two-run single with two outs gave the Trojans the lead at 11-10. Erskine responded in the top of the eighth with an RBI double by Matt Schneider. Chas Anthony scored on a wild pitch and Schneider scored on a sacrifice fly by Bolding to right to take a 13-11 lead. The Flying Fleet added three more insurance runs in the ninth on two hits, two walks and a hit batter. Cory Welch was saddled with the loss for the Trojans, while Pearson earned the win for the Flying Fleet. The Trojans (12-28, 6-10) were led by Davis, who was 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI, and by Grubbs, who had three hits in four plate appearances. Brian Fogle was 5-for-5 for Erskine and missed the cycle by a double. The two teams play a doubleheader Saturday. The first game begins at noon.
