Love and Hazel Named to the AFCU Gold Standard

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University men's and women's cross country standouts Haylee Love and Mason Hazel have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of November.

Love, a junior, helped lead the Trojans to a fourth-place finish at the 2016 NCAA Southeast Regionals at Montevallo in mid-November by finishing eighth in a personal-best time of time of 21:48.01 over the 6K course. AU jumped three spots from their seventh-place finish a year ago, narrowly missing earning a berth at the NCAA Nationals.

The native of Lexington, S.C., garnered All-Region honors and became the first Trojan to qualify for the national championships since former All-American Whitney Bishoff earned back-to-back appearances in 2008 and 2009 and again during the 2011 campaign.

Hazel, who was named to the AFCU Gold Standard for the second consecutive month, paced the men's cross country team with a 22nd-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regionals in a time of 31:40.72 over the 10K course.

The junior from Summerville, S.C., who was runner-up at the South Atlantic Conference Championships in October, earned All-Region accolades for the third straight year.

Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
