Women’s Cross Country Remains Fifth; Men’s Cross Country Slips One Spot in Latest USTFCCCA Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS – With the NCAA Southeast Region Championships looming on the horizon, the Anderson University women's cross country team stayed steady in fifth place in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Southeast Region Rankings, while the men's team slipped one spot.

Both teams finished third at last weekend's South Atlantic Conference Championships, with the women trailing just second-ranked Queens and fourth-ranked Wingate. There were no changes from 1-7 in the regional poll from two weeks ago, with the Peach Belt Conference placing five teams in this week's poll, with Mount Olive and Limestone representing Conference Carolinas.

Montevallo, Queens and North Georgia held the top three spots for the fifth straight week, with Wingate and Anderson standing fourth and fifth, respectively. Mount Olive and Augusta remained sixth and seventh, with Flagler breaking into the poll at No. 7 after not being ranked two weeks ago. UNC Pembroke fell to ninth and Limestone rounded out the poll in the 10th spot.

The men's poll featured more upheaval between the top and bottom of the pack, while the Peach Belt posted six squads in the top-10, with Mount Olive, the lone Conference Carolinas' team remaining No. 1 in the rankings. Mars Hill, the SAC Champions, held on to the No. 2 slot, with Flagler jumping one spot into third place. Queens fell to fourth after claiming second at the SAC Championships, with Montevallo vaulting four spots into fifth.

After moving into fifth two weeks ago, Augusta slid back into the sixth slot this week. UNC Pembroke was seventh, with the Trojans dropping to eighth. Columbus State fell to No. 9, with Young Harris remaining 10th.

The Trojans will return to the course on Saturday, Nov. 5, for the NCAA Southeast Regionals, which are slated to be hosted by Montevallo.
