Women’s Cross Country Ranked Fourth in USTFCCCA Southeast Region Poll; Men Tabbed Eighth

NEW ORLEANS – On the heels of their first full competition last weekend, the Anderson University women's cross country team is ranked fourth in the first regular-season regional rankings from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), with the men's squad tabbed eighth, as released earlier this week.

The men's squad, which was ranked sixth in the USTFCCCA's preseason poll, slipped two spots but remains one of three South Atlantic Conference teams in the USTFCCCA poll, along with Mars Hill and defending league champion Queens, which remained second and third, respectively. Mount Olive remained atop the weekly poll.

Augusta lept three teams into fourth place this week, with Flagler holding onto the fifth spot. Montevallo, which was unranked in the preseason, claimed the sixth slot with UNC Pembroke falling to seventh. AU held the eighth spot, while Georgia College and Columbus State rounded out the men's rankings.

Montevallo held the top spot on the women's side, with Queens moving up one spot into No. 2. North Georgia also moved up a spot into No. 3, with the Trojans vaulting from seventh two weeks ago into the fourth slot. Defending SAC champion Wingate tumbled from second to fifth, while Mount Olive remained sixth.

Augusta jumped from 10th in the preseason rankings to seventh this week, with Georgia College, Flagler and Columbus State rounding out the poll.

Anderson is slated to get back on the course Saturday in a preview of the NCAA Southeast Regionals at Montevallo.
