North Florida Eliminates Anderson, 5-0

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- North Florida opened play in the Mid-Atlantic Sub-Regional of the 2005 NCAA Division II Men's Tennis Championship easily winning two doubles matches before gutting out a third to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles and going on to post 5-0 victory over Anderson College Friday afternoon at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex. North Florida advances to play host USC Upstate in the Sub-Regional Championship match Saturday at 9 a.m. at USC Upstate. The winner will advance to nationals in Altamonte Springs, Fla., next week. After North Florida took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches by 8-2 scores, the No. 3 doubles tandem of Damien De Polignac and Jose Terrera fought off a tough challenge to take a 9-8 win in the tiebreaker. With the 3-0 lead heading into singles play, North Florida won at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots to take the team match with the sweep. Elad Gabay defeated Srikrishna Ramanathan in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-1, to give North Florida a 4-0 lead; and Leonardo Gomes claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Carlos Sanches at No. 4 singles to close out the team match.
