ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson University men's lacrosse team has been ranked No.10 in the USA Lacrosse Magazine national poll, and No.12 in both the USILA and Inside Lacrosse polls ahead of Wednesday's (Mar. 29) battle with the Newberry Wolves, who were ranked No.18 in all three polls.
Across all three polls, Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate were the top two ranked teams in the South Atlantic Conference. Anderson came in third, with Limestone and Newberry rounding out the poll for the conference.
The Trojans are coming off their fourth conference win of the season by defeating Catawba by a score of 12-8. Garrett Hawkins and Hunter Klosterman were named SAC Varsity Gems Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for their contributions.
Hawkins, a junior midfielder from Clover, S.C., had three goals, two assists, and two ground balls in the 12-8 win over Catawba on Saturday. His second assist of the game gave him his 100th career point as a Trojan.
Klosterman, a freshman goalkeeper from Cumming, Ga., had 16 saves with a 66.7% save percentage in the win over Catawba on Saturday. He also assisted on a goal for the Trojans. On the season, Klosterman has 85 saves and a 6-0 win-loss record. This marks the second consecutive week in which he has earned SAC Specialist of the Week honors.
Newberry enters the week with a 5-4 record and a 1-3 clip in SAC play, with their three losses coming to the top teams in the conference: Limestone (13-11), Lenoir-Rhyne (18-6), and Wingate (16-14). This season, the Wolves have picked up wins over Young Harris, Belmont Abbey, Lynn, Mount Olive, and Lincoln Memorial.
The No.10 Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Mar. 29) as they travel to face the No.18 Newberry Wolves. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., with video and live stats available on autrojans.com.
