HARTWELL, Ga. - Senior David Wachter's two-day 4-over-par 148 led the Anderson men's golf team to second place at a soggy Emmanuel Fall Invitational, which was hosted by the Lions at the par-72, 6,928-yard Cateechee Golf Club layout in Hartwell, Ga.
Battling a steady drizzle through most of the two-day tourney, Anderson saw Wachter capture All-Tournament honors by sharing fourth place. As a team, the Trojans trimmed 12 strokes off Monday's opening round and saw three golfers post top-10 scores, but it was not enough to overcome the host Lions.
Emmanuel (292-286=578) led wire-to-wire, while Anderson (305-293=598) snapped an opening-round deadlock with Bob Jones University (305-303=608) to claim the second spot. Southern Wesleyan (313-304=617) garnered fourth place with Trinity Baptist (312-310=622) rounding out the five-team field.
Senior Rob Warren (149) and freshman Cole Jefferys (149) were
each one stroke further back and shared sixth place, with freshman
David Monroe carding a two-round 150 and tying for eighth place.
Freshman Grayson Bell tied for 14th with a two-day 153, while
sophomore Forrest Fowler (155) and junior Payton Whitlock (159)
finished tied for 17th and 25th, respectively. Sophomore Ryan
Kincaid posted a 160 to claim a share of 27th and freshman Charlie
Duncan (163) finished in a tie for 31st.
Anderson is slated to will get back on the links, Oct. 5-6, when
the Trojans will compete at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate in
Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.
