Trojans Get Doubled Up at the Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. – The Anderson baseball team wrapped up its nonconference road slate with an 18-9 setback at the hands of Belmont Abbey, Tuesday night at the Abbey Yard.

Anderson slipped to 22-23 on the season and saw its win streak halted at three, while Belmont Abbey improved to 30-13 on the season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Jordan Montgomery was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle after posting a single, a double and a grand slam and driving in five runs on the night. JC LeGrand continued his hot hand by going 3-for-5 at the plate, with a pair of singles and a three-run homer. He scored twice and drove in three runs. Luke Poole added three singles, with Anthony Pandolfi notching a walk and a pair of singles in five trips to the plate. Kye Andress reached base three times after getting hit by a pitch, drawing a walk and notching a single.

Junior Graham Brown drew the start on the mound for the Trojans and gave up six runs on four hits over 3.1 innings of work, while walking five batters and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 6-0, Montgomery's one-out grand slam in the top of the fifth inning brought AU within two, but the Crusaders countered by scoring a solo run in the bottom of the inning to build a 7-4 advantage.

The Trojans answered by taking a brief lead (8-7) behind LeGrand's three-run shot over the right-field fence and Montgomery's run-scoring double in AU's very next at-bat. However, Belmont Abbey scored six times in the bottom of the sixth off the Trojans' Cory Arthur to regain the lead and outscored AU, 5-1, over the final three innings.

ANDERSON STAT OF THE GAME
The two pitching staffs combined to walk just 10 batters on the night.
