Trojans Fall to No. 9 Newberry

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Anderson baseball team returned home for a brief one-game homestand and fell, 20-10, to nationally ninth-ranked Newberry, Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium.

Anderson slipped to 17-16 on the season, while Newberry (26-5) swept the regular-season series by winning its 14th decision in 15 outings.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Justin Fox was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and reached base in all six of his plate appearances. He posted a two-run double, two singles, a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch. He drove in two runs and scored three times. Kye Andress added three singles, scored a run and notched an RBI, while Carlos Hernandez and Luke Poole were each 2-for-4 at the plate, with two singles apiece and each was hit by a pitch, scored a run and drove in a run.

Gray Wells posted a double and a single in five at-bats, with Brayden Owens notching a pair of singles in five trips to the plate. Jordan Montgomery posted a team-high three RBI.

Freshman Cole Davis (1-2) absorbed the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the first inning. The left-hander struck out two batters and walked one. Nathan Ledford, the fourth of nine Trojan hurlers on the night, allowed just one run, while scattering four hits over 3.1 innings of work on the mound. He fanned four and issued just one free pass.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Newberry batted around in the top of the first inning and scored three times, with AU responding by scoring twice in its half of the opening inning.

But the Wolves sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning and pit the game out of reach by plating 10 runs to push out to a 13-3 lead after two innings.

The Trojans committed a season-high seven errors.
