Women’s Cross Country Earns Academic Honor

ANDERSON, S.C. - For the second consecutive semester and the fourth time in the past three years, the Anderson women's cross country team has been named the recipient of the Dr. Shirley Jacks Academic Excellence Award, which is presented to the team that possesses the highest grade point average for each semester.

The squad claimed the honor after wrapping up the fall semester of 2010 with an impressive team grade point average of 3.482, capping off a stellar season for the harriers.

Individually, Head coach Randy Greer was named South Atlantic Conference Co-Coach of the Year at the conclusion of the race, while the AU runners were recognized as a result of their impressive efforts.

Junior Whitney Bishoff was named Conference Runner of the Year as well as first team all-conference following her first-place finish and Lydia Davis was named Freshman of the Year and first team all-conference after bringing home third place. Fellow freshman Madeline Fitts was named to the All-Freshman team and earned second-team all-conference honors along with sophomore Emily Eckroth.

The award - a silver Trojan helmet - is given in honor of Dr. Jacks, a long time supporter of AU athletics.
