Volleyball Adds Three for 2017

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University head volleyball coach Gene Krieger has announced the addition of three prep standouts during the recent early signing period.

Regan Duty (Boiling Springs High School/Boiling Springs, S.C.), Abby Elliott (Gaffney High School /Gaffney, S.C.) and Kaitlyn Grube (Northwest Guilford High School/Colfax, N.C.) have joined the Trojan volleyball squad, which featured three All-South Atlantic Conference honorees and just two seniors on this year's team that made its fifth consecutive appearance in the South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

Duty was a four-year varsity letterwinner and served as team captain for the Bulldogs last season. She led the team and wrapped up the season ranked in the top-five in Class AAAAA Region 3 with 353 kills. Duty earned All-Region honors following both her junior and senior seasons.

Off the court, Duty is a member of the Concert Choir, Beta Club, the National Honor Society and the 212 Student Ministry at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church.

"We are excited to have Regan join the AU family," said Krieger. "We already feel like she is a part of the family with her sister attending Anderson and all the events she has been to on campus. We know she will be a perfect fit with our returners and we will be grooming her to be a rightside player in the future. It will be great to have her as a member of the team."

Elliott recorded 347 digs and 21 aces as a libero/defensive specialist for the Indians last season, while capturing Class 5A All-Region accolades. She also competes for the Upward Stars AAU squad in Spartanburg, S.C.

Elliott is a member of the Beta Club, Spanish Club and is a three-year member of Student Government, while serving as Student Body President in 2016-2017.

"Abby is a high-energy, super-enthusiastic young lady," added Krieger. "Her drive and determination in the back row will help push the returners and raise the level of the team on defense. Anderson was one of the schools on her short list and she has attended several matches and camps the last few years."

Grube is a 6-foot outside hitter who posted 417 kills during her senior season for Head Coach Nancy Everett's Vikings. As a junior, Grube was named All-Tournament at a tournament in Chapel Hill and helped the Vikings earn a berth in the NCHSAA 4A State Championship, while garnering First-Team All-Area Recognition.

She led the team in kills both as a junior and senior, while capturing All-Conference honors and was named Most Valuable Offensive Player and Conference Player of the Year following her senior season.

Off the court, Grube was a member of the National Honor Society and had a perfect 4.0 GPA following her junior year.

"Kaitlyn is a great young lady who loves the sport," noted Krieger. "She is experienced with both indoor and outdoor versions of the game. She came highly recommended by her high school and club coaches who praised her work ethic and personality. She will be a great all around outside hitter at AU and will fit in wonderfully with our team chemistry."
