Mitter, Burts and Conlin Earn All-South Atlantic Conference Accolades

ROCK HILL, S.C. – After helping lead the Anderson volleyball team to its fifth consecutive South Atlantic Conference Tournament appearance, outside hitter Marissa Mitter, middle blocker Rachel Burts and setter Emily Conlin have earned all-conference accolades, as announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon.

Mitter was named First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference after garnering honorable mention honors following last season. A native of Redondo Beach, Calif., the junior led the Trojans and ranked second in the SAC with 375 kills during the regular season and was fourth in the SAC with 3.29 kills per set. The hitter also wrapped up the regular season second on the squad and 18th in the SAC with 330 digs on the year.

The Redondo Beach, Calif., native was one of only two players in the league to post more than 300 kills and 300 digs during the season. She notched a season-high 22 kills versus Tusculum and came up with a season-best 20 digs against Brevard. Mitter has averaged more than 14 kills and 13.6 digs per match over the last eight outings, while posting 19 double-doubles this season and has reached double-figure kills on 23 occasions, including each of the last eight matches.

Burts claimed second-team accolades following a season that saw the transfer post double-figure kills in 13 matches, including 12 of the final 16 outings. She ranked second on the team, behind only Mitter, with 256 kills on the season. The Anderson, S.C., native ranks 36th nationally in total blocks and leads the conference with a .328 hitting percentage, while also leading the league with 118 total blocks and 34 solo blocks while ranking fourth with 84 block assists.

She stands eighth place in the school record books for total blocks in a single season and needs six more to surpass former Trojan great Tiffany Rowe (2010) for the seventh spot. She has already surpassed Ashley Prince for second place in the AU record books for block assists and needs 18 to move past Hailey Pittman (2014) for the top spot. Burts posted at least five total blocks on 13 occasions, including a season-high nine blocks at Newberry in mid-September.

Conlin became the first Trojan to earn SAC Freshman of the Year honors since AU joined the league in 2010, while also capturing Second-Team All-SAC recognition. The Glendale, Ariz., native collected AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Specialist of the Week accolades on two occasions during the season, while leading the conference in assists from the outset and has recorded 123 more assists than the nearest setter in the SAC.

She already ranks sixth in the AU record books for assists in a single season and trails former Trojan standout Leslie Nodine (2001) by 76 assists for the fifth spot. Conlin also paced the league in assists per set (10.29) service aces (51) and service aces per set (0.44) while ranking 15th in the nation in assists. She wrapped up the regular season with 10 consecutive double-doubles and posted 18 on the season, while reaching the 40+ assist plateau 15 times, including a career-high 60 assists in AU's five-set win over Tusculum in September.
