Morris Scores Late To Tame Lions

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Jessica Morris scored off an assist from Jamie Slayton with 24 seconds remaining in the second overtime and assisted on Anderson's first goal to lead the Lady Trojans to a 2-1 victory over Mars Hill in a non-conference match Thursday night at Smethers Field. Anderson improves to 4-10-1 overall, while Mars Hill falls to 6-9. Anderson took the lead at 42:37 when Morris, a freshman from Winston, Ga., found Ginny Cates in front of the Mars Hill net, and Cates scored from point-blank range. The Lions got the equalizier when Ashley Eakins collected a header from Kristen Huppert and scored from 12 yards out. The golden goal came when Slayton bumped the ball from the right wing and Morris put it inside the right post. Anderson goalkeeper Meghan Woodall made 11 saves to collect the victory. Mars Hill had 20 shots to 10 for Anderson. Anderson is now 2-1 in overtime matches this season. Season Statistics
