ANDERSON, S.C. - After helping lead the Anderson University softball team to its most successful campaign in school history, sophomore Jessica Neidigh and junior Danielle Swygert have been named to the 2013 Daktronics All-America Softball Team, as announced late Wednesday.
Neidigh, an All-South Atlantic Conference second baseman, and Swygert, an All-SAC selection at first base, started every game this season as the Trojans posted a school-record 40 wins en route to the school's first-ever appearance in the NCAA's Southeast Super Regional
A sophomore, Neidigh was a First-Team All-America selection after ranking 15th in the nation and leading the SAC with her .457 batting average and 66 runs scored from her lead-off spot. She finished with a league-leading 90 hits on the season, and posted a team-best 17-game hitting streak between the season opener vs. Augusta State on Feb. 2 and Feb. 27.
The Lawrenceville, Ga., native earned SAC Player of the Week accolades in early April after going a perfect 9-for-9 in the weekend doubleheader at Lincoln Memorial and hit .731 on the week (19-of-26), with three doubles, a triple and a home run and scored nine runs, while driving in six runs from her leadoff spot. She posted a slugging percentage of 1.038. Neidigh recorded 29 multi-hit games during the season.
"It is quite an honor for Jessica especially considering she is just a sophomore," said Anderson head coach Tommy Hewitt. "This proves she is one of the best out there."
Swygert garnered honorable mention accolades following a stellar junior campaign that saw her rank third in the league with her .398 batting average, fourth in slugging percentage (.620) and 15th in the NCAA in RBI per game. She notched 24 multi-hit games on the season and finished the season with a five-game hitting streak .
"Danielle had a slow start to the season but finished very strong," added Hewitt. "She is very deserving to being named honorable mention."
