Trojan Softball Ranked Sixth in Final NCAA Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Anderson University softball team remained sixth in the third and final NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson (37-13), which is just one win away from equaling last season's school-record win total, remained in the same spot as last week and is one of four teams from the South Atlantic Conference in the regional top-10, along with Lenoir-Rhyne (2nd), Wingate (8th) and Catawba (10th).

With each of the conferences that comprise the NCAA's Southeast Region wrapping up their respective league tournaments more than a week ago, the rankings remained unchanged from last Wednesday.

Nationally second-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State, topped the Southeast Region rankings for the third consecutive week. Lenoir-Rhyne, which captured the SAC Tournament crown, is in the second spot and North Georgia remained in third.

Columbus State, the 16th-ranked team in the NFCA Coaches' Poll, is fourth in the regional poll after winning the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. Mount Olive claimed the Conference Carolinas Tournament title and is fifth.

Anderson occupies the sixth spot, while nationally 24th-ranked Georgia College is seventh in the region. Wingate rounds out the top eight teams, while Flagler and Catawba are ninth and 10th, respectively.

The NCAA D-II Tournament selections will be determined on Sunday and are scheduled to be unveiled in a selection show on NCAA.com on Monday.

If the selections hold true to the final regional rankings, the Trojans would square off against North Georgia in the tourney's opening round, scheduled for either Thursday, May 9, or Friday, May 10, while fellow SAC-member Lenoir-Rhyne would face another Peach Belt Conference opponent, Georgia College.

In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas each receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more at-large selections.
