ANDERSON, S.C. - The trio of Jessica Neidigh, Danielle Swygert and Molly Child combined for 12 hits and seven RBI, as the Anderson softball team wrapped up the regular season by sweeping Erskine, 6-3 and 10-0, in nonconference action Monday afternoon at Smethers Field.

Anderson improved to 37-11 overall, while Erskine fell to 14-20 on the season.

Game #1
Anderson 6, Erskine 3

Junior Bailey Smith ripped her eighth home run of the season, a three-run shot in the third inning, while sophomore Jessica Neidigh was 2-for-3 in the opener with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Junior Danielle Swygert added a double, a single and a walk and drove in a run.

Junior Lauren Bell (20-5) tossed a complete game, surrendering three earned runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking six.

The Trojans capitalized on back-to-back singles to open the bottom of the first inning to gain an early 1-0 lead, but Erskine countered with back-to-back home runs to lead off the third inning to take a 2-1 advantage.

AU regained the lead on Smith's three-run homer with two outs in the third, as her shot deep beyond the left-field fence gave the Trojans a 4-2 edge.

Anderson added a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth and the Flying Fleet scored once in their final at-bat to set the final score.

Game #2
Anderson 10, Erskine 0 (5 innings)

Neidigh was a perfect 3-for-3 in the nightcap, while scoring twice and driving in three runs with a first-inning double. Freshman Molly Child added a pair of singles and Swygert was 2-for-2 in the nightcap, with two runs scored and a pair of RBI. Abby Child recorded her team-leading ninth home run in the fourth inning.

Bailey Smith (17-6) allowed just two hits over the five-inning stint. The junior right-hander struck out four and walked two.

The Trojans exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, sending 11 batters to the plate. AU added three more in the bottom of the fourth frame and the Trojan defense held Erskine scoreless in the top of the fifth to end the contest.

With the win, the Trojans regained possession of the Beville Cup for the fifth time in the past seven years and combined with the victory by the men's tennis team, AU earned the final two points of the competition and finished with a 9.25-6.25 advantage in the battle for possession of the trophy.

Last season, for just the second time in six years and the first since 2009, Erskine claimed possession of the Cup by a narrow 9.5 to 9.0 margin.

Anderson opens the South Atlantic Conference as the No. 2 seed and will face seventh-seeded Wingate (27-18-1, 9-9 SAC) on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Salisbury, N.C. The Trojans and Bulldogs split a pair of narrow one-run decisions at Smethers Field in late March.
