Trojan Track and Field Looking to SAC Indoor Championships

ANDERSON, S.C. – Looking to capitalize on the momentum generated from record-setting performances at last weekend's South Carolina Indoor Open, the Anderson University track and field teams are readying for the 2020 South Atlantic Conference Indoor Championships on Saturday and Sunday.

The two-day event is slated to be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

"We are rolling into the championships with a lot of momentum and confidence from last weekend," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "Our goal is to get as many athletes into Sunday's finals and hopefully that sets us up to do well in the team standings. We have the opportunity to score team points in multiple events, which makes it very exciting for our student-athletes. It's now time to compete with confidence and perform at a high level."

Nearly three dozen Trojans combined to repeatedly post more than 60 personal-best efforts through the indoor season, with several notching record-setting marks in multiple events.

For the Trojan women, freshman Lauren Pernell has posted personal-bests in six different events and holds the team's top marks in the 200 meters, 300 meters, high jump and pentathlon, while sophomore Regan Appleby P-R'd in the shot put and the weight throw and holds top marks in both events. Junior Hannah Beach notched personal-bests in both the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters, while holding the best time in the 3,000 meters.

Senior Kelsey Horner also posted personal records in the mile run and both the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters, while setting the top mark in the 5,000 meters. Junior Lydia Gambrell notched a personal-best in the mile run at last year's SAC Championships. Sophomore Katharine Landry P-R'd in the shot put and holds AU's top mark with a personal-best in the long jump. Senior Emily Olson notched personal-best times in the 3,000 meters, the 5000 meters and the mile run.

Freshman Brianna Quartararo holds the top mark in the 400 meters and posted a personal-record in both the 400 meters and the 800 meters, while junior Olivia Rish P-R'd in the 800 meters and the mile, while holding top marks In both events. Sophomore Melea Sangl posted career-best times the 800 meters and the mile and notched career-bests in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters at last year's SAC Championships. Newcomer Aubrey Stoddard notched personal-bests in the 800m, mile and 1,000 meters and posted the Trojans top mark in the 1,000 meters this season. Freshman Rebecca Ward also P-R'd in the 800m, 5,000m and mile run.

On the men's side, freshman Michael Burgess notched personal-bests in the 3,000 meters, mile and 5,000 meters, while junior Robert Jones posted a personal-record in the 400m hurdles at last year's SAC Championships and holds the top mark this season in the 60m hurdles. Classmate Phillip Quillen posted P-R's in the mile, 5,000m and 3,000m and holds the squad's top mark in both the 5,000m and 3,000m.

Freshman Cole Silvester holds the squad's top mark in the 400 meters after posting P-R-s in both the 400m and 800m. Sophomore Thomas Sutcliffe notched personal-records in the mile, 5,000m and 3,000m and holds the top mark In the mile run. Junior Hayden Tuten notched P-R's in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and recorded a personal-best in the mile run at last year's SAC Championships.

Junior Connor Wheatley holds the top mark in the weight throw and shot put after notching P-R's in both events, while sophomore Damion Williams P-R'd in both the 60 meters and 200 meters and also holds AU's top mark in both events. Sophomore Brandon Williams notched career-bests in the mile, 3,000m and 5,000m during the indoor season.

Admission to the championships is free and parking is available on-site.
