Quillen and Sutcliffe Set Personal-Best Times at Grand Valley State’s Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Anderson University junior Thomas Sutcliffe and sophomore Philip Quillen both competed in the men's 5,000 meter run at Grand Valley State's Big Meet, Friday morning at the Laker's Kelly Family Sports Center.

Quillen, a native of Spartanburg, S.C., slashed more than 30 seconds off his previous personal-best by finishing fifth in a qualifying heat in a time of 15:00.21. Sutcliffe claimed eighth place in another qualifying heat in a personal-best time of 15:28.76, which was nearly 19 seconds faster than his previous career best time.

"Both guys ran fantastic," said Anderson head coach Kevin Eagle. "We came up here to get our guys into the biggest D2 meet in the country all year, and they showed up. Both Thomas and Philip ran personal bests in the 5K. That aside, the experience they both gained from this meet will set them up to perform at a high level moving forward. I couldn't be more proud."

Both Trojan track and field teams are scheduled to get back in action Saturday, Feb. 22 at the South Carolina Indoor Open.
