Track and Field Readies for Buccaneer Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – After setting numerous personal-bests two weeks ago at the Gamecock Opener, the Anderson University track and field squads are set to get back in action, Friday and Saturday at East Tennessee State's Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City, Tenn.

The two-day event will be held inside the Buccaneer's ETSU/MSHA Athletic Center.

AU did not compete in the Volunteer State last season, but several current Trojans were in action in the Mini-Dome two years ago.

As a freshman, Olivia Evans won the women's 5,000 meter run, while classmate Hannah Beach finished ninth. Evans also posted a fifth-place finish in the women's mile run two years ago.

Then-freshman Olivia Rish was on the women's distance medley team that claimed third place, with the Pelzer, S.C., native pacing four Trojans in the 3,000 meter run by finishing 12th. Lydia Gambrell finished 17th and Emily Olson was 34th in the event.

Then-freshman Ben Clark finished sixth in the men's 5,000 meter run, while classmate Weston Hutto crossed the finish line in 15th place and Joey Teachout finished 23rd. Luke Horne wrapped up the Trojan contingent in 28th place.
Matthew Burgess and Phillip Quillen were on the men's distance medley squad that claimed 10th place. Quillen also finished 16th in the men's 3,000 meter run, with Matthew Burgess bringing home 26th place.

David Rolon and teammate Hayden Tuten, who were freshmen, finished 47th and 52nd, respectively, in the men's mile run in their first appearance in Johnson City. Connor Wheatley finished 29th in the men's weight throw.

Friday's running events are scheduled to get underway at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 60 meter hurdle prelims, while the field events are slated to start at 11 a.m. with the men's weight throw.
