BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The Anderson University track and field teams competed in the unofficial Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference championship meet Apr. 20-21. "Although the championship meet was unofficial, it was a big step toward having track and field becoming an official conference sport," said Anderson head coach Randy Greer. Five women's teams were present: Anderson, St. Andrews Presbyterian, Mount Olive, Queens, and Lees-McRae. Anderson finished second in the women's competition with 121 points, while the Anderson men finished third with 59 points. Anderson won nine individual conference titles. Kasey Harold won the 3,000-meter steeplechase, long jump, and triple jump. Also for the women, cross country champion Jennifer Hitt won the 1,500-meter run, Savannah Springer won the 800-meter dash, and Diana Willard won the 5,000-meter run. For the men, Chris Lee won the javelin, while Nate Parsons won the 3,000 steeplechase. Three new school records were set at the meet. Hitt, with her conference winning run in the 1,500, ran a 5:02.30. Springer ran a 2:25.18 in the 800. Distance runner Nate Parsons showed his athletic ability in the high jump, setting a school record with a jump of 1.78 meters.
