Track Teams Have Successful Spring Break

The Anderson University track and field teams competed in four meets during spring break. AU athletes competed at the Georgia Relays Mar. 16-17, the Deacon Combined Events Mar. 22-23, the Wake Forest Invitational Mar. 23-24, and the Emory Invitational Mar. 24 In the throwing events at the Georgia Relays, Justin Smith threw the hammer 41.09 meters (134' 10"), Chris Lee threw the javelin 38.89 meters (127' 07"), and Kasey Harold threw the shot 9.00 meters (29' 06.5"). Harold also competed in the long jump where she broke her own school record with a final jump of 5.22 meters (17' 01.5"). On the track, Jeremy Hunsaker ran a season best time of 16:07.23 in the 5,000 meters to finish 13th. In the 1,500 meters, freshman Alex Jordan lowered his school record with a time of 4:08.95, while Jason Bryan ran a 4:21.04. Jordan and Bryan finished in 11th and 22nd, respectively. At the Deacon Combined Events at Wake Forest University, Harold broke three school records and finished sixth overall. Harold shattered her previous school record totaling 3,960 points in seven events. She also broke records in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.47 (w: -1.0) and in the Triple Jump with a distance of 27.08 (88' 10"). The Deacon Combined Events led to the Wake Forest Invitational. Anderson again had a smaller than usual crew. Ashten Guffee, who missed the first half of the season after having surgery on her foot, elected to compete in just the 800-meter dash. She finished with a time of 2:48.22. Other notables from Friday night's competition include were: Greg Loftis (5,000 meters, 18:13.62 PR), Bryan (3,000 steeplechase, 10:17.80 PR), Matt Atkinson (3,000 steeplechase 10:35.91), and Hunsaker (10,000 meters, 33:50.63)
