Caro Sepulveda Leads Trojans to 4-2 Win at Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Anderson University men's soccer team picked up a big win on the road Saturday night (Oct. 21) with a 4-2 victory over the Catawba College Indians.

The Trojans entered the match well-rested having the week off, most recently defeating Erskine 3-1 last weekend on senior night. As conference play resumed, Anderson was preparing to spoil Catawba's senior night to extend their win streak.

Catawba came out and controlled the pace of play in the first half, outshooting Anderson eight to four in the period, scoring in the 15th minute to take an early lead. The Trojans were able to answer back in the 27th, after a free kick Pol Elias was able to connect with Santiago Arce on a long ball, finding the back of the net for the equalizer. Just before halftime, Sebastia Cerda-Tous scored his second goal of the half to give the Indians a 2-1 lead going into intermission.

Anderson was able to flip the script in the second half of play. Momentum switched in the 51st minute when Juan Jose Alvarez crossed the ball into the box. It deflected off a Catawba defender, and into the back of the net for an own goal to even the match at 2-2.

In the 65th minute, Julian Caro Sepulveda created space for a shot well outside the box, perfectly placing the ball in the upper right corner to give Anderson the lead. Caro Sepulveda put the icing on the cake in the 84th minute, as Jace Hicks found him outside the box once again. Julian chipped the ball to the
upper right corner for the second time, fueling the Anderson 4-2 victory.

"Great win tonight, I am really proud of the team," said coach Michael Zion. "What a response to being down 2-1 at halftime. Julian provided some magic and the team battled for 90 minutes. Great night for AU!"

The Trojans will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 25) at 5:00 p.m. as they resume a postponed match with Carson-Newman. Play will resume in the 13th minute with the Trojans winning 1-0.
