GREENWOOD, S.C. – Paced by junior Jake Miller's two-round, even-par 144, the Anderson University men's golf team is in 22nd place following opening-day action at the Bearcat Classic Monday.
The two-day event is being hosted by Lander on the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club course.
In a field including four teams ranked in the top-33 nationally, 32nd-ranked Clayton State leads No. 11 Lincoln Memorial by one shot entering Tuesday's final round. The host Bearcats are 12 strokes further back in third place, with 37th-ranked Newberry and Delta State sharing fourth place. No. 36 Georgia Southwestern is in sixth place, while Lenoir-Rhyne is in the seventh slot. Belmont Abbey and Mount Olive are tied for eighth place, with Flagler in 10th place. Young Harris and Queens are 11th and 12th, respectively, while Coker, North Georgia and Georgia College are tied for 13th place.
Erskine, West Georgia, Wingate, Barton, King, Catawba and Anderson finished out the 22-team field.
Lincoln Memorial's Dan Bradbury (69-68=137) leads Clayton State's Andres Caballero (71-68=139) and Nick Wolf (72-67=139) by two shots in the chase for individual medalist honors, while LMU's Sam Broadhurst and CSU's Javier Gonzalez are tied for fourth place, one stroke further back.
With his second-round 69, Miller was just two shots off his season-best from three weeks ago at the Southern Tide Classic and sits in an eight-way tie for 16th place. Senior Grayson Bell is tied for 80th place after carding a two-round 153, while sophomore Cal Brock (156) is tied for 90th place. Sophomore Colt Martin (161) is tied for 105th entering Tuesday's final round, with senior Cole Jefferys rounding out the Trojan contingent in a tie for 109th place.
The final round is slated to get underway Tuesday morning.
