Five Trojans Honored by PalmettoStateBaseball.com

ANDERSON, S.C. - After completing a memorable season on the diamond in 2014, Anderson University baseball landed five on the 2014 PalmettoStateBaseball.com All-State teams, highlighted by two players being picked to the first team, announced Tuesday by PalmettoStateBaseball.com.

Senior catcher Jonathan Zalud and senior left fielder Nathan Galliford were the lone Trojans to be named to the all-state first team as the duo paced the South Atlantic Conference in representatives. The honor marks the second time both players have been named to a first-team, as the duo claimed SAC first-team selections following the season. Zalud closed the year with a .353 average with 13 doubles and 20 RBI, while signing a professional deal with the Bisbee Blue of the Pecos League following the SAC Tournament. Galliford finished 2014 fifth in the nation in home runs with 15, while hitting .314 and slugging .616.

Being named to the Honorable Mention list were infielders Steven Cooper, Kyle Bailey and Brett Cash. Cooper joined Zalud and Galliford on the SAC first-team prior to the start of the conference tournament, as he was 31st nationally in doubles with 18 and 45th in total bases with 116. Bailey banged out five homers on the year, while slugging .395 with five doubles and 26 RBI. Cash, who joined Zalud on the SAC Gold Glove list, led Anderson with 151 assists, while hitting .309 with 10 doubles and 25 RBI.

Between the five players named to the all-state honor, the group hit .321 (289-for-899), with 55 doubles, four triples, 31 home runs and 169 RBI.
