ANDERSON, S.C. - After three seasons as a closer and starting pitcher in the Anderson University baseball rotation, junior right handed pitcher Landon Beck was selected in the 25th round of the 2014 Major League Baseball Draft by the National League champion, St. Louis Cardinals.

Beck becomes the first player from Anderson to be drafted since Blair Cason who was picked by the Cincinnati Reds in the 42nd round in 2009.

As a junior, Beck finished the year with a 5-6 record with 72.2 innings pitched and ranked second in the South Atlantic Conference in strikeouts with 90. Despite finishing second in the category, the Hartwell, Ga. native paced the conference in strikeouts per game with an average of 11.15. In his first two seasons with the Trojans, Beck totaled 10 saves in 94.2 innings pitched with a combined 94 strikeouts.

This season, Beck was the only Trojan to be named to both a Preseason All-SAC team and a postseason team, being picked to the All-SAC Honorable Mention list. The junior's 2014 year was highlighted by the Carson-Newman series with he picked up a win and a save in back-to-back days, highlighted by a complete game win in the series finale over the Eagles. For the year, Beck totaled double figure strikeouts three times.
