Women’s Cross Country Vaults to Third in Regional Poll

NEW ORLEANS - On the heels of a second-place finish at last weekend's Bulldog Stampede, the Anderson University women's cross country team jumped two spots and is ranked third in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII Southeast Region Rankings, as released Tuesday afternoon.

Following last weekend's results at the Bulldog Stampede, the weekly poll saw a reshuffling among the 10-team field, with Anderson and the host Bulldogs each moving up two spots from a week ago.

Top-ranked Montevallo held onto the top spot for the third consecutive week, while Wingate moved from No. 4 to second and the Trojans vaulting from fifth to third, as Queens slipped one notch to fourth and North Georgia tumbled from the second slot to fifth.

UNC Pembroke (No. 6), Flagler (No. 7) and Columbus State (No. 8) remained unchanged, while Coker reappeared in the rankings at No. 9 after dropping out a week ago. Young Harris rounded out the poll at No. 10.

The 20-team Bulldog Stampede was billed as an early preview of the NCAA Southeast Regional, with seven of the top-10 regionally ranked teams competing in the 6K event. Host Wingate claimed the top spot in front of the Trojans, while Anderson out-dueled both North Georgia and Queens in the head-to-head matchup for second place.

Anderson will get back in action Friday, Oct. 9, when the Trojans are scheduled to make their second appearance in the Queen City to compete in the Royals Challenge.
