Trojans Drop Series Opener at League-Leading Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Anderson University baseball team opened a three-game South Atlantic Conference series with a 15-2 setback to 23rd-ranked Catawba Friday night at Newman Park.

Anderson (6-17, 2-8 SAC) suffered its fourth consecutive setback, while Catawba (16-5, 9-1 SAC) has won 10 of its last 11 contests,

The Indians erupted for 11 runs in the fourth inning and were the beneficiaries of a stellar performance on the mound, as JJ Jankowski recorded 16 strikeouts.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the fourth, Catawba got Jankowski all the runs he would need. Brett Underwood was hit by a pitch to force in the go-ahead run then Ryan Bostian cleared the bases with a triple.

Ethan Satterfield connected on a three-run homer to up the margin to 9-1. Cameron Beard and Greg Lawson followed with solo shots as the Indians went back-to-back-to-back to tie a school record with three straight homers.

Satterfield finished with four hits and three RBI, while Bostian drove in three runs on three hits. Beard and Julio Zubillaga also had three hits for Catawba.

Brett Cash had one of the four Anderson hits. It was a solo homer in the third that tied the game. TJ Estes took the loss for the Trojans. Only five of the 12 runs he allowed were earned.

The Trojans and Indians wrap up the series with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader, with first-pitch slated for 1 p.m.
