Trojan Volleyball Earns Road Win Past Tornados

BREVARD, N.C. - Paced by freshman Shannon Gillespie's season-high 17 kills and .333 attacking percentage, the Anderson University volleyball team defeated Brevard, 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 25-14) in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at Boshamer Gymnasium.

Anderson (4-8, 2-1 SAC) bounced back from a tough road loss Friday night and has won two of its last three, while Brevard slipped to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Freshman Hailey Pittman added eight kills and Kelley Lacey contributed six of her own, while Alix Hooker added a team-high 14 digs and Jackie Harper recorded a season-high 20 assists. Junior Tiffany Rowe had five total blocks to help pace a Trojan effort at the net as Anderson had 11 total blocks in the game.

Ashlie Morrison led the way for Brevard with her 11 kills, while Kortney Conner also reached double digits with 10 kills on the afternoon. Bethany Stevenson added 28 assists, while Lindsey Rogers led all players with 17 digs in the four set match. Jamie Atkinson also contributed six kills to go with seven total blocks in the match for the Tornados.

Anderson will get back on the court Friday, Sept. 23, when the Trojans play host to Carson-Newman. First-serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Abney Athletic Center.
