Trojans Win Eleventh Straight with Doubleheader Sweep over Lees-McRae

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University softball swept nonconference opponent Lees-McRae to win its 11th straight game winning game one, 12-7, and coming from behind to win the nightcap, 8-6, on Thursday afternoon at AU Softball Complex.

With the wins, Anderson improves to 14-4 overall while the Bobcats fall to 4-4 overall.

Anderson used a six-run second inning to propel them to an opening game win. A slew of Trojans recorded at least two hits (Kayson Boatner, Morgan Charter, Mattie Hamilton, Mattie Cantrell, Sydney Belcher, and Gracie Williams highlighted by five extra base hits (4 doubles, 1 home run). The second inning scoring burst was capped off with Boatner's eighth home run of the season.

The Black and Gold added three more runs in the third, one in the fourth and two more runs in the sixth inning with Lees-McRae scoring six of its own in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 10-7. Anderson held the Bobcats scoreless over the final two innings to win game one, 12-7.

Junior Kayla Pepper (6-2) gave up nine hits while striking out 10 Bobcats.

Lees-McRae's Charlsy Traylor (2-2) was tagged with the loss after giving up 16 hits and nine earned runs.

GAME 2     Anderson 8    Chowan 6

Timely hitting pays off big with late inning heroics leading to a come-from-behind win, 8-6.

With the Trojans down 5-1 and just six outs remaining AU's Hamilton crushed a 3-run homer to score Boatner and Charter to cut the lead to, 5-4. Lees-McRae extended it lead with a single run in the top half of the seventh inning. Down 6-4, freshman Hope Gullatt led the inning off with her second career home run. Junior Kennedy Burton reached on an error while junior Abi Webb drew a walk. With two outs and runners on second and third, Hamilton drilled the walk-off home run.

Junior Sarah Middleton (5-2) gave up eight hits while striking out three.

Anderson remains home when it host nonconference opponent Augusta on Thursday, March, 5th. First pitch is slated for 2 pm.
