Men’s Cross Country Finishes 10th at Royals Challenge

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In its final tune-up for the South Atlantic Conference Championships, the Anderson University men's cross country team finished 10th of 39 teams at the Royals Challenge, which was hosted by Queens Friday afternoon at McAlpine Creek Park.

Junior Mason Hazel led the Trojan effort for the fourth consecutive outing after slashing 42 seconds off his previous season-best and crossing the finish line in 11th place in a time of 24:47.2. Senior Ben Boerma trimmed 53 seconds off his previous season-best effort and crossed the line in a time of 25:47.2, with freshman Brooks Hovis posted a season-best effort and finished 73rd in a time of 26:08.0.

Senior Jesse Patrick was 116th in a time of 26:45.1, while fellow senior Michael Burch bettered his season-best time by a half-minute and finished 142nd in a time of 27:04.0. Freshman Luke Horne crossed the line in 170th place in a time of 27:28.9, with senior Ned Kennedy placing 197th in a time of 27:50.8. Sophomore John Drummond posted a time of 28:00.9, which was also a season-best effort at the 8K distance, and finished 208th.

Next up for the Trojans is the South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Newberry on Oct. 22, 2016 at the Clemson Sandhills Research and Education Center in Columbia, S.C.
