Men’s Cross Country Claims Seventh at Falcon Classic

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – With junior Mason Hazel pacing the team with a 12th-place finish, the Anderson University men's cross country team finished seventh at the Falcon Classic, hosted by Montevallo Saturday morning at the Falcon's Cross Country Course.

The Trojans, who were ranked eighth in the region in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) weekly poll, were one of three squads from the South Atlantic Conference to compete on the 8K course.

Hazel, who earned All-Region honors on the same course two years ago as a freshman, shaved nearly 15 seconds off his previous season-best time, crossed the finish line in a time of 25:29.42. Trojan freshman Brooks Hovis slashed nearly a minute off his time over the same distance a week ago at Furman and placed 40th in a time of 26:51.05. Senior Ben Boerma crossed the line in 44th place in a time of 26:59.43, with freshman Luke Horne (27:09.29) trimming 37 seconds off his season-best time and finishing 47th.

Senior Michael Burch was well over a minute faster than a week ago, finishing 59th in a time of 27:34.30. Fellow senior Jesse Patrick (27:52.99) finished 72nd, with sophomore John Drummond garnering 95th in a time of 28:42.54.

Anderson will get back on the course in a week, at Southern Wesleyan's Warrior Invitational.
