Men’s Golf Opens Spring Season at LMU Spring Kick-Off

ANDERSON, S.C.-- Anderson University men's golf team travels to Florida next week (Feb.12-13) to begin their spring season at the LMU Spring Kick-off in St. Augustine, Fla. Hosted at the St. John's Golf and Country Club, the Trojans will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by 18 on Tuesday. 

AU is joined in the field by fellow South Atlantic Conference teams: No. 2 Lincoln Memorial, No. 22 Coker, Limestone, Lenoir-Rhyne, Wingate, Newberry, and Catawba. The slate also includes No. 1 North Georgia, No. 8 Georgia Southwestern, No. 18 Lander, No. 20 Columbus State, Lynn, Palm Beach Atlantic, Belmont Abbey, Flagler, Erskine, King, Regis and Christian Brothers. 

Representing the Trojans will be freshman Luke Sullivan (Columbia, S.C.), freshman Sam McMillan (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), senior Daniel Coker (Hartsville, S.C.), senior Jamie Markwick (Bishop's Waltham, England) and junior Simon Wright (Lancaster, S.C.). 

Fall Recap 

AU began their 2023-34 campaign with five tournaments across September and October, all of which were held at different courses in Georgia. 

The Trojans opened the season in Augusta at the Bearcat Fall Invitational where Coker (averaged 74.0 during the fall season) carded an even round of 72 to contribute to AU's 15th-place result. 

The following week, Anderson took home a 13th-place finish at the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate in Gainsville, before opening October with an 11th-place finish at the Cateechee Fall Invitational in Hartwell. McMillan (averaged 73.2 in the fall) performed best for AU, notching a score of 63(-8) for his second round—a mark which ties him for best 18-hole round in program history. McMillan tied for 13th overall at -3, followed by Coker who shot a 54-hole total of 218(+2) and finished 37th. Wright (averaged 75.1 in the fall) shot a 72(E) in the final round to secure the Trojans' spot on the board. 

Continuing to build off previous performances, Anderson wrapped up the Hurricane Invitational in 10th place. Sullivan (averaged 74.1 during the fall season) and Coker led the Trojans, finishing tied for 30th in the field at +7. Markwick (averaged 74.4 in the fall) fired a final round of 70(-2). 

The fall season concluded with AU claiming 12th place at the McCoy-Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational in Toccoa at the end of October. McMillian carded a round of 68(-4) to tie for a 26th-place finish. 

Sullivan finished the fall season with six rounds of 72 or better, while McMillan fired five rounds of 73 or better.
