Trojans Rally in Extra Innings; Stretch Win Streak to Six

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Justin Fox's clutch two-out triple down the right-field line scored Brayden Owens with the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, as the Anderson baseball team stretched its season-opening win streak to six with a 5-4 win over Limestone, Sunday afternoon at Founders FCU Stadium.

Anderson improved to 6-0 with its second series sweep in as many weekends, while Limestone fell to 0-7.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Owens recorded a pair of singles on the afternoon and scored twice, including the game-winner in the 10th. Fox finished the day with a double and his game-winning triple in five trips to the plate, while Kye Andress added a pair of singles and two RBI. Nick Vela was 2-for-5, with a single and a double, with Jackson Van Ness going 1-for-3 at the plate, with an RBI-double in the sixth inning. William Laffin was 1-for-3, with a single and scored a run.

PITCHERS
Walker Noland got the start on the mound and allowed eight hits, but just three runs in 6.2 innings of work, while striking out six and walking two. Alexander Maurer (2-0) earned the win by tossing the final two innings in relief and limiting the Saints to one single and a walk, while fanning one batter.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Limestone took advantage of a leadoff triple and a single in the third inning to grab a 1-0 lead, while the Trojans countered with a leadoff double to left field off the bat of Fox in the top of the fourth frame. He scored two batters later, when the Limestone defense misplayed Laffin's hit to the left side of the infield.

The Trojans added three runs in the sixth inning, with Andress' two-out single back up the middle plating both Laffin and Van Ness for most of the damage. But the Saints' rallied to knot the score at 4-4 by adding two runs in the seventh and another run in the eighth.

Neither team was able to push a run across in the ninth, with Owens coming through with a two-out single through the right side in the 10th inning and Fox following with his triple down the right-field line to bring home Owens with the eventual game-winning run.

The Saints' Hunter Blair drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the final inning to get the potential tying run on base, but the Trojans escaped when Peter Adams' lined out to Owens at third and he doubled up Blair at first base.
