FOREST CITY, N.C. - After fifth-seeded Wingate recorded 21 hits on the afternoon, sixth-seeded Anderson University baseball saw its season come to a close with a 17-3 setback in an elimination game of the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Tournament Saturday afternoon at McNair Field.

With the loss, the Trojans end their campaign with a 21-30 record, while the Bulldogs, who bounced back after dropping a three-game regular-season series to the Black and Gold earlier this season, improve to 28-21 and keep their hopes of a conference tournament championship alive.

The Trojan offense produced eight hits for the game, as four came from the brother duo of outfielders Nick Bernardo and Garrett Bernardo. Nick Bernardo closed the game with a 2-for-4 performance, while Garrett claimed a 2-for-3 afternoon, as both brothers scored one run apiece. Senior shortstop Brett Cash posted one of two Trojan extra-base hits with an opposite field solo home run to put AU on the scoreboard in the second inning.

Freshman third baseman Tyler Miller notched the other extra-base hit with a two-out double down the left-field line, while junior second baseman Kyle Bailey and junior catcher LJ Newman rounded out the AU hit category with singles.

The top five hitters in the Wingate lineup combined for a 13-for24 (.542) performance at the plate, as Shane Billings led the 'Dogs with four hits, headlined by a lead-off double to open the bottom of the first inning. Freshman Bradley Brown finished 3-for-4 with a double, while Thomas Spitz ended the afternoon 2-for-4 with a first-inning three-run home run and a fifth-inning double.

Outfielder Bill Krebs, who hit two home runs at Memorial Stadium during the regular season, add two more homers against the Trojans this afternoon with solo shots in the fourth and in the eighth innings.

Wingate right-hander Hunter Hamilton tossed his first complete game of the season, as he allowed eight hits and three earned runs while striking out four Trojan hitters.

The Bulldogs advance to another elimination game on Sunday when they face the loser between No. 2 seed Newberry and No. 3 seed Tusculum.
