Baseball Unveils 2015 Schedule

ANDERSON, S.C. - After a memorable 2014 season, Anderson University baseball head coach Joe Miller has announced his 2015 schedule, as the Trojans look to return to the South Atlantic Conference Tournament for the second straight season.

This year's edition of the schedule features 30 SAC matchups to go along with 20 nonconference showdowns with 38 scheduled to be played within the Palmetto State. With 25 games scheduled for Anderson Memorial Stadium, the home slate features a three-game set with defending SAC champion, Catawba, in late March, and two meetings with archrival Erskine to begin the months of March and April.

AU opens the 2015 schedule on the road at familiar opponent, UNC Pembroke, for a doubleheader on Feb. 1. The Trojans open with the Braves for the fourth consecutive season, switching home series each year. Last season, UNCP spoiled Anderson's home opener, as the Black and Gold suffered a 14-11 setback to open the year.

Following the doubleheader with the Braves, Anderson begins SAC play with a three-game series with Newberry on Feb. 6-7. The Feb. 6 date marks the earliest AU will play a conference game since the Trojans joined the SAC prior to the 2011 season. Anderson breaks the most recent earliest date of Feb. 7 when the Black and Gold opened their SAC schedule on Feb. 7 at Mars Hill a season ago.

Anderson steps away from its conference schedule following the trip to Newberry for its home opener against Conference Carolinas opponent Limestone on Feb. 10. The game with the Saints marks the first time since 2010 LC has opened AU's home schedule as the Trojans took the home opener in 2010 over their in-state rivals, 4-3, in 12 innings.

The home opener is the start to a five-game homestand as AU welcomes North Greenville to Memorial Stadium on Feb. 11, followed by a conference series with Mars Hill on Feb. 13-14. In last season's series with the Lions, MHU claimed two of three as AU avoided the sweep with a 13-1 win in the final game. The Lions are coming off a season where they finished seventh in the final conference standings, missing the SAC Tournament.

Following the home stretch, Anderson hits the road for a five-game road trip, beginning with the first of three matchups with Erskine on Feb. 17 and AU's second meeting with North Greenville on Feb. 18. After the two nonconference games, AU hits the road to Carson-Newman for a three-game set on Feb. 20-21. AU took two-of-three from the Eagles in its first SAC home series of 2014, as C-N finished eighth in the league standings a season ago.

Closing the road stretch, Anderson's next five contests are nonconference opponents, beginning with a home matchup with North Georgia on Feb. 24. After the meeting with the Nighthawks, the Trojans play two on the road beginnings with Lander on Feb. 25 and then Southern Wesleyan on Feb. 26. Anderson returns home to end the nonconference stretch with its second game with Erskine and first towards the Beville Cup on March 3 and a rare nonconference game against Newberry a day later.

The Trojans return to league action on March 6-7 when they make their first visit to Coker since the 2011 season and first as SAC rivals. Anderson earned its first conference sweep over the Cobras last season using just four pitchers in the three-game series.

Three days later, AU makes its return trip to Limestone, followed by a home game with Southern Wesleyan on March 11, which begins a seven-game homestand for the Trojans.

Back-to-back conference series follow the meeting with SWU, beginning with a visit from Wingate on March 13-14. The Bulldogs tied Catawba for the regular season conference championship, but dropped in the SAC Tournament championship to the Indians, which ended their postseason. Despite missing the NCAA Tournament, Wingate closed the year with a 34-17 record.

The SAC's lone representative in the NCAA Tournament, Catawba, invades Memorial Stadium to close out AU's long homestand on March 20-21. The Indians handed AU a road sweep a season ago, as the Trojans are seeking their first win over their Tar Heel State rivals since the 2010 season.

Following a second nonconference game with Newberry on March 24, Anderson continues league play with a trip to Tusculum on March 27-28. The Pioneers claimed an even 14-14 record in conference games and finished fifth in the final standings last season. AU took one of three from TC a season ago, headlined by 13-12 victory in 10 innings in the first game on Saturday's doubleheader.

Anderson closes its season-long three-game series with Erskine on April 1 at Memorial Stadium and jumps back into conference play on April 3-4 when its hosts Brevard for a three-game series. The Trojans played a rain-shortened two-game set with BC a season ago, splitting the doubleheader.

Lander makes the short trip to the Electric City on April 7 as it closes a five-game home stretch for the Black and Gold. After the matchup with the Bearcats, AU begins a brief four-game road trip, beginning with SWU on April 8, followed by a road series with conference foe Lenoir-Rhyne on April 10-11. The Trojans took two-of-three from the Bears in their penultimate home conference series of the 2013 season.

On April 14, Anderson plays its final game with North Greenville to close a season-long three-game series at Memorial Stadium, followed by a return game at North Georgia on April 15. Following the meetings with two directional schools, the Trojans welcome Lincoln Memorial to the Upstate for their final SAC series of the season on April 17-18. Last season, the Black and Gold sealed their first SAC Tournament berth in Harrogate with a 15-13 victory in the series finale.

The Trojans are scheduled to celebrate Senior Night with their fourth and final matchup with Southern Wesleyan on April 20. In last season's Senior Night, then-senior Nathaniel Galliford hit a walk-off double in his final plate appearance at Memorial Stadium, handing AU an 8-7 win in 11 innings. With Senior Night following the conference series with the Railsplitters, the Black and Gold close the regular season with four straight home games.

The SAC Tournament returns to Forest City, N.C. on April 23-26 as Anderson looks to notch back-to-back appearances in the annual tournament for the first time in program history. In last year's tournament, the Trojans suffered two setbacks in their opening two contests, ending their season.

Despite graduating all three outfielders and two infielders, the Trojans look to rebound in 2014, as the team returns three of its four starting pitchers, while the majority of the bullpen remains intact. With a mix of quality returners to go along with one of the program's largest recruiting class, Anderson looks to return to the postseason this upcoming season.
