Volleyball Team Takes Over First Place In CVAC

ANDERSON, S.C. - Anderson College took sole control of first place in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference with a 30-18, 31-29, 28-30, 30-27 victory over Belmont Abbey Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson improves to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the CVAC. The Lady Trojans are now 6-0 at home. Belmont Abbey, which entered the match having not lost a game in its first four matches, falls to 4-1, 2-1. Anderson took control of the first game early and rolled to a 12-point victory. In the second game, Belmont Abbey seized a 22-17 lead but could not hang on. After seven ties starting at 22, Anderson scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Crusaders built a 23-16 lead in the third game and had to hold off another Anderson comeback to keep the match alive. Anderson tied the game three times at 24, 27, and 28, but a service error and a kill by Sarah Halligan gave the third game to Belmont Abbey. In the fourth and final game, Belmont Abbey forced a tie at 22 and then took a 27-26 lead, but Anderson scored to final four points to close out the match. Anderson was led by Leanna Willis with 15 kills, Beth Lawson with 12 kills, and Jessica Pedrick with 45 assists. Shaunte' Heyward and Beth Lawson had four blocks apiece for Anderson. Defensively, Anderson was led by Maggie Irvin with 15 digs and Amanda Edwards with 14 digs. Anderson College Volleyball Statistics
