GREENSBORO, NC--The Anderson University Track and Field team competed against mostly Division I opponents this weekend at the Aggie Relays Invitational hosted by NC A&T State, but the Trojans had just one runner sneak in and return home a winner; Nate Parsons was outstanding in the men's 3000m steeplechase, taking first place in a race that featured D-I Pitt and conference nemesis Lees-McRae among others. The AU steeple-specialist fell on a hurdle and face-planted on the third-to-last lap, but a small village could have been built between Parsons and the closest competitor--Pitt's Matt Norwood. Parsons finished 10 seconds ahead of Norwood, with a 9:45.64; but with the fall, the sophomore missed his personal best time by that same margin. "I have definitely run it faster than that," said a jovial Parsons. "But I'm glad to get around without losing the lead after falling." The meet was riddled with organizational difficulties and two days that normally can be wrapped up with 12-13 total hours lasted a total of 17 hours. The Trojans did their share of waiting around. Couple that waiting with an abundance of nagging injuries, and the result was a less than best showing for the team. Lynne Flint, Chelsea Rogers, Candace Homer, and Whitney Bishoff ran the women's 800m and posted a time of 9:51.66 for a fourth place finish. Ashley Blome ran instead of Bishoff in the women's distance relay and the group took second in that event. Blome had a great performance in the women's 400m hurtles as she grabbed a 16th place finish among 24 runners, but most importantly put up her best time ever in that race, posting a 1:08.34. Also posting a personal best was Trojan men's soccer stand-out Zerron Forte. Forte, a junior from Trinidad, competed in the 100m dash, and finished in 11.23 seconds--20th among 41 sprinters, but 3rd among D-II runners. The Trojan Track & Field team will continue to get healthy as they train this week; preparation for the conference tournament in Banner Elk will continue this coming weekend at the Furman Invitational on Saturday, April 11.
